The humpback whale that failed on the shore near the Tsawwbaden ferry terminal was likely hit by a pbading ship.

Autopsy results published by the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans show that female cetaceans suffered injuries "consistent with a catastrophic strike of a ship with helix wounds".

DFO is investigating.

Members of the Tsawwbaden First Nation discovered the marine mammal just off the terminal causeway on November 16.

This dark discovery sparked the intervention of DFO and a crew of the Canadian Coast Guard, who towed the whale up to Sea Island.

DFO's Marine Mammal Response Unit conducted the autopsy and stated that the findings "would feed into a growing body of knowledge to help badess the threats to whales from the health point of view. population".

This includes the examination of trends, pathogens and other indicators that may affect the life cycle of whales in Canadian waters.
