The Sabers were ranked No. 1 by two voters and as low as No. 8 by two others. Three people had them at No. 3, four at No. 4, one at No. 5 and one at No. 6.
The wide range of votes validates a question posed around the NHL these days:
Do you believe in Buffalo?
The Sabers have nine wins by one goal in their winning streak, seven of which were decided after regulation (four in overtime, three in shootout). However, they beat four of the top 11 teams of the week, including the No. 2 Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Sabers made their season debut in the Super 16 at No. 12 on November 15th. They went to No. 8 last week and jumped four more places this week.
The Washington Capitals and Colorado Avalanche also made big jumps this week, winning six spots each. The San Jose Sharks lost six spots, the biggest fall of the week.
To create the Power Rankings, each of the 13 staff members on the team created their own version of what the Super 16 should look like. These are submitted and a total of points is awarded to each. The team chosen first receives 16 points, the second 15 points, the third 14, and so on up to number 16, which gives a point.

1. Predators of Nashville (17-7-1)
Total points: 204

Hit: The Predators have already tied their hat-trick record in a season with four (Austin Watson, Calle Jarnkrok, Colton Sissons, Filip Forsberg, one each). They also had four in the 2015-16 season.
miss: They were 13-0-0 when they scored the first goal until they lost 3-2 against the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday, when the striker Ryan Hartman scored the first goal. The loss also ended a run of six home wins.

2. Tampa Bay Lightning (17-7-1)

Hit: The Lightning have won five of eight games (5-3-0) with no goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiywho is on the injured reserve with a broken left foot. Louis Domingue started each game with an average of 2.90 and a save percentage of .912.
miss: Defender Anton Stralman, who has missed nine consecutive games with an upper-body injury, will be out for at least another week or longer.

3. Toronto Maple Leafs (18-8-0)

Hit: Auston Matthews scored two goals and earned a pbad in a 5-3 win against the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday after returning from the center after missing 14 games due to a shoulder injury.
miss: Nazem Kadri did not score in eight consecutive games dating back to Nov. 15 (two badists in that period).

4. Buffalo Sabers (17-6-2)
Total points: 167

Hit: The Sabers have won 10 consecutive victories, equalizing the longest streak in their history. They are first in the NHL with 36 points in 25 games.
miss: Nothing.

5. Capitals of Washington (14-7-3)

Hit: The Capitals have won six straight games, all without injured strikers Evgeny Kuznetsov and T.J. Oshie, each with an upper body injury.
