A school in the south-east of the city was vandalized during the night and some students claimed that it appeared that graffiti had been sprayed on the property's walls in response to a dispute over vaping on the property.
Students from Centennial High School arrived Wednesday in search of graffiti stuck on the school's exterior walls. Some say that vandalism is directed against the police officer of the school.
The vandalism took place overnight and consisted of a few explets and symbols.
The word "Consty" has been used several times and some say that their vaping products have been confiscated by the head of the school and that this is a recurring problem. Students over the age of 18 are allowed to vape, under the law, but not on school grounds. They say the dispute is about people using 'the pit', which is an area on the school grounds where smokers congregate.
Students who spoke to CTV News said they were sad that the situation had turned into such a situation.
"Personally, I'm disappointed because there's a stereotype that comes with" children of the wells "and that's they're stereotypical teenagers, they always have problems, they do not make never anything good and it's up to them and for them to do so, it really proves that all the stereotypes are correct, "said Armeria Lougheed.
"It had to happen sooner or later, I really did not expect it to be that big, I thought it would only be one place, but it really exploded, so that's all." is upsetting, "said Jalen MacLean.
In a statement, the Calgary School Board states that it is unfortunate that Centennial High School was vandalized and that it was reported to the Calgary Police as soon as it was discovered.
Police officials confirmed, in a statement to CTV sent Wednesday afternoon, that a graffiti investigation was underway.
The Service is disappointed that someone has targeted our school resource manager for doing their part to make schools a healthy environment for Calgary youth. The law on gambling, alcoholic beverages and cannabis prohibits smoking and vaping on or near the school. Minors are also prohibited from owning tobacco products.
School Resource Officers are in schools to advise youth on the right choices and to help promote a safe and healthy environment for all students. It is unfortunate that someone has chosen this approach to express their frustration rather than find a more constructive way of solving the problem.
CBE's facilities manage the cleaning of graffiti.
