Southwest Airlines apologized to a family after the mother of a five-year-old girl said an access officer mocked her daughter's name, Abcde, and posted a photo of her boarding pbad on social media.
Traci Redford told KABC-TV that she and her daughter were about to take a flight back to El Paso, Texas a few weeks ago at California's John Wayne Airport, when the agent Door services started laughing at her daughter's name on the boarding pbad.
"The door officer started laughing, pointing to my daughter and me talking to other employees. So I turned around and said, "If I hear you, my daughter can hear you, so I would be grateful to stop you," she told the TV channel.
Redford said that she and Abcde, who pronounced her first name "AHB-sih-dee," boarded early, as her daughter was suffering from epilepsy.
The mother also said that the Southwest Airlines employee took a picture of her daughter's boarding pbad and posted it online. Redford said that she had learned of the existence of the message from another person who had seen her online and had complained to the airline.
When CTVNews.ca contacted us, a spokesperson for Southwest Airlines apologized to the family.
"We offer our sincere apologies to the family. We are very proud to extend our Southwest hospitality to all our customers, which involves respecting the golden rule and treating each person with respect, in person or online, "said the communicated. "The position does not indicate the care, respect and civility we expect from all our employees."
The spokesman for the airline also said he followed up with the employee involved in the incident, but he did not reveal whether the screening officer had been reprimanded or if he had been disciplined.
