The flu season is on the rise in Alberta and continues to hit the province's largest city, with six figures indicating that six Albertans have died of laboratory-confirmed influenza.
Alberta Health Services released their latest flu figures on Thursday. The total number of cases of influenza A rose from 1,411 cases recorded to 1,985 last week. Influenza B cases increased more modestly, from 13 cases confirmed last week to 16 Thursday.

Almost 63% of all laboratory-confirmed influenza cases were in Calgary. Of the six flu-related deaths this season, five have occurred in this city.
In total, 427 Albertans have been admitted to hospital with the flu this season, according to AHS.

The total number of Albertans vaccinated against influenza is close to one million. As of November 24, 998,842 doses of vaccine had been administered throughout the province. During the last influenza season, AHS reported that 1,229,350 people had been vaccinated against influenza.
