HALIFAX-Members of the long-awaited committee wanting to debate whether Halifax should honor its controversial founder have were announced

The Co-Chairs are Roderick Googoo, Chief We & # 39; koqma & # 39; q, and Monica MacDonald, Director of Research at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21.

The other members of the committee announced by the city on Wednesday are:

– Daniel Paul, Micmac elder, author [19659006] – Bernie Francis, linguist mi & # 39; kmaw

– Pam Glode-Desrochers, executive director of the Mi & # 39; kmaw Native Friendship Center

– Jaime Battiste, writer mi & # 39; kmaw [19659006] – Sheila Fougere, former Councilor of Halifax [19659006] – John Reid, Professor of History

– AJB (John) Johnston, former Parks Canada historian

– Paul Friesen, Anglican priest and rector of St. Paul's Church

Cornwallis founded Halifax in 1749 and soon thereafter issued a bonus on the scalps of men, women and children in mid-kmaq in response to a Attack on a sawmill in what was to become Dartmouth

Last year, the Halifax Regional Council voted to create the c omité in charge of deciding what to do with the controversial statue of Edward Cornwallis.

This is called The Commem The Prayer of Edward Cornwallis and the Special Advisory Committee on the Recognition and Commemoration of Aboriginal History

The Council Voted Last Week to add two more members to the committee

The Cornwallis statue fell in January and is stored. More soon.
