RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigates a body discovered on Thursday in a ditch in Strathcona County.
"The circumstances surrounding the death of the man seemed suspicious," police said in a press release issued late in the afternoon.
The RCMP did not specify the age of the man nor did he become an adult.
"The Strathcona County RCMP reacted this morning at 8:34 to the 911 complaint of a dead man on a rural property," police said. "An autopsy is scheduled tomorrow at the Chief Medical Examiner's office in Edmonton."
Police said they were expecting to provide an update once the autopsy was completed.
You could see RCMP officers filing clues in a ditch on Thursday afternoon. An on-site Global News team saw a body pulled from a row of trees planted just off the road, before being taken on a stretcher.
The scene is just north of Highway 14 on Range 231, just south of Sherwood Park. Witnesses told Global News that the road was blocked since late in the morning.
Thursday afternoon late, a flatbed truck arrived at the scene. He could be seen moving back into the wooded area where the body had been found. He then resurfaced while carrying a black van.
Police officers were seen digging the ditch on the road from where the body was found.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Strathcona County RCMP Detachment at 780-467-7749. Tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online.
