A fire in a three-apartment building in Paradise on Saturday night displaced four people and severely damaged one of the units.
Acting Platoon Chief Gerry O'Neill of the St. John's Fire Department said he received a 911 call around 7 pm reporting a fire at 1766 Topsail Road, they found smoke coming from one of the units when they arrived at the scene. Firefighters laid lines of attack and began fighting the fire during a search of the building.
No one was in any of the units, but a cat was found once the fire was under control and it was returned to its owner. Firefighters were unable to locate a second missing cat during the incident.
O'Neill said most fire damage was limited to one apartment and all four units were damaged by smoke and water.
There were people at home in the unit where the fire started and they escaped safely, but there was apparently no house in the other units when there was no fire. fire is declared.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Force will investigate and try to determine a cause.
The Red Cross announced that she was badisting a couple from one unit as well as a man and a woman from each of the other two apartments by providing them with emergency shelter, food and clothes.
None of the residents were injured.
