A five-year-old boy who disappeared from his home in Brampton was found near a railroad track with a fatal head injury, according to Peel Paramedics

The Peel Regional Police said that the child was last seen Thursday in the McHardy Court area and McMurchy Avenue, just south of Queen Street West.

Authorities stated that the boy's mother had woken up to find his missing son with the door open. The boy was missing at 6:06 am, police said.

"This morning she got up, the door was open and the child was gone," Const. Danny Marttini says:

Police said that the child, who has not disappeared previously, was found around 7am near the railroad tracks far from his house.

"They were located by our dog unit," said Marttini. "When they were located, they obviously felt that it was necessary to have it examined by the ambulance.They called paramedics."

Peel paramedics said the boy had been transported to Brampton Civic Hospital with a fatal head injury.

In an update on Thursday morning, officials said that the child was in critical condition. taken to the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children for extra care

Police say they did not know how the boy was injured

"Because we do not know what caused the injuries, we can not tell if it was a train or not a train or caused by a person.

Police stated that the child was sleeping when he was found.

"They were originally described as probably asleep, but the reality was that I can not say that they were aware," Marttini said. "They were not unconscious, so there was obviously some breath."

The authorities have since closed the railway section for the investigation.
