Social media on a Barrhaven Facebook page and on Reddit say that when police arrived, pepper spray was needed to disperse the crowd.

Casey Doyle was among the crowd watching at 10pm. A fireworks when a shot went off beside her.

"Everybody was screaming and running away," she says. "There were cops looking for those who did it and it was every five or ten minutes.

Doyle says the fireworks went off beside the little kids and their families.

"I'm so happy that no one was really hurt," she said.

The organizers say that they plan to add fences around the perimeter and even ban the backpacks.
