The overwhelming heat may have kept many people away from Canada Day events in the capital, but the Barrhaven Canada Day organizers say they have a fairly large crowd, some of whom are become turbulent. fireworks in the crowd, "said organizer Darrell Bartraw. Bartraw says dozens of teenagers, men and women, arrived at Clarke Fields around 10 pm. and started triggering fireworks in the crowd.
"We have never seen anything like it before," he said. "I do not know what we are doing, I would hate to cancel it because of a few hundred people who just want to do their own thing and do not know how to have fun."
Social media on a Barrhaven Facebook page and on Reddit say that when police arrived, pepper spray was needed to disperse the crowd.
Casey Doyle was among the crowd watching at 10pm. A fireworks when a shot went off beside her.
"Everybody was screaming and running away," she says. "There were cops looking for those who did it and it was every five or ten minutes.
Doyle says the fireworks went off beside the little kids and their families.
"I'm so happy that no one was really hurt," she said.

The organizers say that they plan to add fences around the perimeter and even ban the backpacks.
"It was just dangerous," said organizer John Scholam. "Watching children take over was really frustrating … a lot of families were just trying to have fun."
