A man killed during a police confrontation near Elk Point

A Frog Lake First Nations Police Detachment was shot dead Thursday by a man

The RCMP RCMP reported being called to an incident around 10:00 am at a rural residence while she was was trying to arrest a suspect.

They said that there was a stalemate that lasted several hours despite numerous attempts to establish contact through an RCMP negotiator.

Late in the evening, there was a confrontation that prompted the officers to shoot.

They did not disclose the identity or details of the man about the incident to which they were called.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is now investigating the circumstances of the death of the man.

We were ordered to investigate a fatal shooting involving police on Thursday night in a residence of the Frog Lake First Nation. A man died following a meeting with @RCMPAlberta members . No other information available at the moment.

The Frog Lake First Nations are located 250 km northeast of Edmonton.
