Toronto police said that a suspect was under arrest in a downtown Monday night, leaving a man seriously injured.

The arrest comes after the police reported that a pedestrian had been struck by a car fleeing the scene. . However, the police did not release the two incidents early Monday night

A spokesman said that a man was found on Madison Avenue with a gunshot wound. Toronto paramedics reported that the man, in his 20s, was transported to a trauma center in a serious and potentially fatal condition.

Police said that shortly after the shooting, a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle. Madison and Bernard avenues. They said that the vehicle that hit the pedestrian crashed into a tree.

A description of the vehicle was similar to that reported during the shooting, police said.
