A man working at Fraser Surrey Docks was killed Saturday after a piece of equipment he was working on crushed it, according to the workers union.
The International Longshoremen's and Warehouses Union of Canada [ILWU] issued a press release about the dockside, which is a marine terminal on the Fraser River in Surrey, BC It is in operation since 1962.
The union says that the worker, in his forties, was a mechanic, but also a member of Local 115 of the International Union of Operators-Engineers.
The victim has not been identified.

Rob Ashton, President of ILWU Canada, says that death is under investigation by Employment and Social Development Canada, which regulates the docks.
"We can and must do more to protect all workers from death and injury from workplace accidents," said Ashton in a statement
