A Yukon mother and her 10-month-old daughter killed by a grizzly bear in an isolated cabin

The RCMP and the Yukon Coroner investigate the death of a mother and her 10-month-old daughter.

According to the coroner, 37-year-old Valerie Theoret and her daughter Adele Roesholt were found dead Monday by the child's father in an isolated cabin northeast of Mayo, near the border with the Northwest Territories.

Gjermund Roesholt was returning from his trapping line and, as he was approaching his home, he was charged with a grizzly bear.

He shot and killed him. When he arrived at the cabin, he found the bodies of his wife and child.

The coroner said that it seemed that the mother and the child had gone for a walk when the incident occurred, between 10 am and 3 pm. November 26th.

The family has been trapped in the Lake Einarson area over the past three months.

The Mayo RCMP, the RCMP Forensic Identification Section, and the Yukon Government Department of the Environment badist the Yukon Coroner Service in this investigation.
