Accused in the bus accident Humboldt Broncos to make his first court appearance Tuesday

The man accused in an accident that killed 16 people and injured 13 others in the Humboldt Broncos team bus will make his first appearance on Tuesday.

Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, 29, was driving a semi that collided with the bus in April, while he was heading to a playoff game in Nipawin, Saskatchewan

Sidhu was charged with 16 Charges of dangerous driving of a motor vehicle causing death and 13 counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily injury. Last week, the RCMP said that convictions for dangerous driving of a vehicle causing death could result in a term of imprisonment of up to 14 years, while a conviction for having hurt someone could lead to someone in prison for 10 years.

Calgary Friday and was remanded in custody.

The crash occurred at a rural intersection 30 kilometers north of Tisdale, Saskatchewan. According to the RCMP, the bus had the right of way and the semi was at the intersection when the vehicles collided

According to his LinkedIn profile, he went to Canada on a student visa in 2013 to earn a degree in Business Administration at Bow Valley College in Calgary.

Sidhu's appearance will be held in Melfort Provincial Court.
