A man from Winnipeg was taken into custody after a dramatic and dangerous confrontation at a home in East Kildonan on Thursday that lasted about six hours.
The Winnipeg Police Service stated that the police officers were first called to another home in Chalmers Ward for a gun incident at 1:15 pm on Thursday afternoon.
About 30 minutes later, a vehicle was involved in a collision on the Nairn overpbad and a man fled on foot.
"Shortly after, the man was sighted that he was entering a block residence at Nairn Avenue 400 and threatened to shoot at police officers," said officer Jay Murray, wearing – Winnipeg Police Department.
A six hour armor, armed and barricaded, ensues, during which three other people are safely removed from the house.
Everything happened dramatically when a fire broke out and firefighters arrived on the scene.
The cause of the fire is still under study.
The house in flames, members of the tactical support team forcibly entered through a fortified window, seized the suspect and took him to safety.
He was taken to hospital in a stable state for precautionary reasons and has not yet been interviewed by the investigators.
Police said late Thursday that they were expecting to disclose more information on Friday.
