Finn Balor was supposed to face Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura in Smackville tonight, but that match did not take place.
WWE announced shortly before the start of Smackville Balor could not fight tonight: "During the week, @FinnBalor was the victim of an undisclosed injury. @WWE Medical unfortunately did not allow him to compete in tonight's competition at #SMACKVILLE We do not know who or if @ShinsukeN defends his title, stay tuned as we learn more. "
Nakamura has instead kept his title against Ali in tonight's special stage. Nakamura entered at the beginning of the show and wanted to win. While the referee was about to count Balor, Ali fell and decided to set up a promotional system under which Nakamura would defend the Intercontinental title against him immediately.
Ali hit a satellite DDT for almost falling and headed for the top rope towards the end of the match, but Nakamura ended up avoiding the 054, sending Ali to the front row in the central curtain and retaining it with Kinshasa.
John Pollock from Post Wrestling tweeted that he was told Balor has a deal a "24-hour bug-like situation" and the WWE hopes that it will be ready for SmackDown on Tuesday. Balor vs. Dolph Ziggler was announced for the episode.
