DENVER – Nathan MacKinnon scored three goals and the Colorado Avalanche overcame a natural hat trick in Sidney Crosby Pittsburgh Penguins for a 6-3 win at the Pepsi Center on Wednesday.

Crosby scored three consecutive goals, two at the last minute of the second period. He completed his eleventh hat trick in the NHL at 4:43 of the third to equal 3-3, scoring from the front after a Dominik Simon pbad.
"We were back in the game, it was a draw at 12 or 13 minutes," Crosby said. "We have a power play for which we have an excellent opportunity, we do not convert, they will score and score.

The Avalanche scored a goal of Johnson and Wilson at 2:39 of distance in the second period. Johnson scored at 5:13 for a 2-0 lead on a shot from the right point on a pbad from Sven Andrighetto. Wilson was in the slot when he redirected MacKinnon's pbad at 7:52 to bring the score to 3-0.
The Penguins came closer at 3-2 when Crosby scored 42 seconds apart. He blocked his rebound during a breakaway at 7:08 pm and beat Grubauer on the short side at a sharp-cornered power play at 7:50 pm.
