The Sûreté du Québec says that they are looking for the driver of a jet ski who fled the scene after hitting a woman from Ottawa on the Gatineau River, about 25 kilometers south of Maniwaki.
The woman, a 26-year-old woman from the Ottawa area, was transported to an Ottawa hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police said they did not know for sure which hospital they were taken to. Police say she was floating on a large party raft on the river near Patry Island, along with six other people, when they were struck by a jet ski. The police stated that she was not sure what had caused the watercraft to hit the woman, but she thought the driver may have been "maneuvering" to make waves.
None of the other six people on the raft were injured. The police say.
After hitting the woman, the jet ski driver fled the scene. Police pointed out that the law is no different than if it were on the road – which means that the driver, if caught, could face hit-and-run charges.
Quebec Police Spokesperson
The police say they have a pretty good description of the jet ski and its driver. "For the moment, we have a good description of the vehicle right now," said a spokesman for the Quebec police.
They do not currently communicate any details about the jet ski driver. "We will wait for the moment, and if we have information, we will publish it as we do in other cases," said the police
