Intel will be the only provider of iPhone modems, says the report.
The first iPhone 5G will likely use an Intel modem, the 8161, and it could come out in stores in 2020, according to a report from the company Fast Company.

For prototyping and testing of the iPhone 5G, Intel would work on a precursor of the 8161 called the 8060.
To increase the density of the transistors for more speed and efficiency, Intel will probably manufacture the 8161 using its 10 nanometer process.
The performance of the 8060 seems to have triggered a bit of tension between Apple and Intel because of "heat dissipation issues" that would increase the temperature and reduce the life of the battery.
However, Apple's current problems with Intel are not serious enough to prompt Apple to call on Qualcomm for the provision of 5G modems, says the report from Fast Company, based on its source. Apple declined to comment on the report.
The first 5G smartphone is expected next year.
Android phones from manufacturers such as Xiaomi, Oppo and Huawei will contain 5G modem chips manufactured by Qualcomm that said its modems have managed heat dissipation issues, the report said.
