CBC Calgary held a public forum on the possible bid for the 2026 Olympics on Wednesday night before the November 13th plebiscite.

The panel, moderated by David Gray of Calgary Eyeopener, heard from both sides of the bid and answered questions from the public and viewers online.

A City Hall registration can be viewed below or on CBC Calgary's Facebook page.

Panel members include:

  • Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi.
  • Mary Moran, CEO of Calgary 2026.
  • Coun. Evan Woolley, Chair of the City Council Evaluation Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
  • Trevor Tombe, economist at the School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary.
  • Jeanne Milne, an organizer of Calgary's No Olympics.
  • David Finch, badociate professor at the Bissett School of Business at Mount Royal University.

The town hall was held at Calgary's new central library.

Prior to the hearing, audience members were asked to raise their hands and vote to find out if they were in favor of an offer, against an offer or undecided. About 75% of the audience seemed undecided as to whether the city should bid.

Here is an overview of what the public thinks about whether or not Calgary should bid for the 2026 Olympics before City Hall.
