OTTAWA – This year's RBC Bluesfest will host a few new artists, after three of the four eggs hatched in a bird's nest have been relocated to make way for the main stage.
Workers at the Ottawa event discovered the nest of murderers – members of the plover family known for their noisy and distinctive appeal – on a pavement that would normally be under the scene.
The organizers devised a plan to move the two birds and their four eggs to about 30 meters, and an official with a federal license to handle migratory birds began work Tuesday.
He involved moving the eggs to a replica nest, then moving him one meter every 20 minutes until he reached his new home. The work was rewarded on Saturday when team members noticed that the first chick had pierced its shell.
In a few hours, the fledgling "ran, apparently no worse for wear," according to a Bluesfest release. by two new brothers and sisters
