Friends and family of a woman and a child murdered more than two years ago were in tears in front of a hearing room in Calgary after hearing the heartbreaking testimony of witnesses at the Edward trial Downey.

Downey is charged with first degree murder in the deaths of 34-year-old Sara Baillie and her 5-year-old daughter Taliyah Marsman in the summer of 2016.
Baillie was found dead in her basement suite at Panorama Hills on July 11, and Taliyah's body was found on a rural property east of Chestermere three days later.
Downey was arrested and charged with death and pleaded not guilty to two counts of first degree murder on the first day of his trial.
In the prosecutor's opening statement, the jury heard that Baillie was found dead with tape under her face and wrists, stuffed into a laundry basket hidden in her daughter's closet.
Attorney Carla MacPhail said that Downey's fingerprints were taped and that Baillie and Taliyah were both asphyxiated.
MacPhail said Baillie had been killed because she had become a bond between Downey and his girlfriend, who was Baillie's best friend at the time. The prosecution said that Taliyah was killed because she could identify her mother's murderer, an acquaintance she already knew as a friend of the family.
Downey's ex-girlfriend, who can only be identified by AB, testified on Tuesday and Wednesday, the court heard from her sister that Baillie was worried about AB after seeing Downey hitting his friend in the face after an evening with her.
A neighbor, Douglas Jesson, told the court that he had seen "a man take a girl out of a car and take her to the other side of the street in another car" and that this girl had to cry.
He said the girl was wearing polka-dot boots and was accompanied by a stocky black man who was wearing a red suitcase. Jesson and his wife, Sharry, said they had both seen the couple on July 11th.
Two police officers testified in the afternoon and talked about Baillie's vehicle search.
Calgary Police Sergeant Darren Smith reviewed CCTV footage from the location around Baillie's home and showed a timeline of photos to the jury.
He added that he had also been asked to look for a gray Dodge Charger belonging to AB but often used by the accused and that he had been sighted parked at the corner of Baillie's home address. morning of July 11th.
He told the court that Baillie's Ford Fusion had been parked in front of his house until 10:13 and had already left at 10:34. He said that she was seen a few hours later and then left. Nykoluk said that the last time the shipper was filmed in the area, it was at 13:27.
The trial continued on Thursday, with the testimony of Constable CPS. Bradley Nykoluk, who was called to check social badistance at Baillie's home after family members could not reach her when she did not show up for work.
Nykoluk said he had done a brief search and that he "did not have anything obvious to me" and that he had seen an iPad recharge on the bed.
He added that he had not seen any sign of forced entry or anything extraordinary after his first search, but that he thought he "was missing something, so I decided to carry out a secondary search in the residence ".
Nykoluk stated that he had searched the drawers and cabinets and that when he was going to move the laundry basket into the closet he was not moving and seemed heavier than he should have been. ;be.
He described when he found the body in the laundry basket and said that two feet with painted nails were painting the legs and he realized they were beyond any help.
The family members were back in the courtroom and were moved listening to the difficult testimony.
A judge and a jury of five men and seven women are currently in charge of the trial, which is expected to last three weeks.
