MONTREAL – The Canadian Space Agency confirms that astronaut David Saint-Jacques will launch on December 3rd for a six-month mission aboard the International Space Station.
The Canadian's fate was called into question after a Soyuz rocket fell last month, but it will now take off more than two weeks earlier than expected.
The agency said in a statement that the delayed launch date will contribute to the continuation of scientific work and urgent operations aboard the space station.
The departure of Saint-Jacques was initially planned for December 20th.
An investigation by the Russian Space Agency revealed that a defective sensor caused the failure of a Soyuz rocket shortly after its launch in Kazakhstan on October 11.
The problem occurred two minutes after the flight began, resulting in the capsule in which NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Alexei Ovchinin of Roscosmos were 50 km away. None of the two men were injured.
