Charges were laid against an 18-year-old driver in an accident that killed a mother and a child in Mississauga earlier this month.

Sanket Dogra, his wife Khushboo Arora and their young son Prakrit were driving their Nissan on Burnhamthorpe Road early in the morning of November 1, when they were hit by a man driving a Hyundai.

Arora, 31, and Prakrit, two years old, were both killed in the accident. Sanket suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital where he went into a coma for several days. He stays there, receiving treatment.

In the opinion of the doctors, the family did not reveal to his wife and son.

Dogra's family had previously told CTV News Toronto that it was not uncommon for the family to drive at 2 am, as it was a tactic that young parents used to help Prakrit fall asleep.

The driver of the Hyundai, also seriously injured in the accident, was stopped by police following the collision and released without charge.

On Tuesday, nearly a month after the accident, the Durham Regional Police again arrested the 18 – year – old man.

A suspect identified as Evan Campbell, of Orillia, was charged with two counts of criminal negligence causing death and one count of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

He is being held in custody until Wednesday's bail hearing in Brampton.

Vishal Sarangal, Sanket Dogra's brother-in-law, said the charges sounded like a kind of family closure.

"I mean as a family, we are relieved to learn that something has been done about it," he said. "We have been hoping to receive this kind of news for a long time and finally it's here, so at least we think that there will be some kind of justice for the family members we lost and for Sanket also when He will recover. "

The investigation of the accident is underway. The police said she was still interested in talking to anyone who witnessed the incident or could have a video with a dashboard camera.
