The first domino fell.
With the MLB trade deadline in a few days, the Los Angeles Angels made their first big move.
The Angels sent gold glove receiver Martin Maldonado to the Houston Astros in exchange for left handed pitcher Patrick Sandoval and the international pool area on Thursday.
Sandoval, 21, has played in 19 games (13 starts) this season between Quad Cities category A and Buick Creek Adv. -A, 9-1 with two saves, a 2.56 ERA and 97 strikeouts. He scored a series of scoreless goals in 42 games in nine games from May 29 to July 16 and was 6-0 with a save and 48 strikeouts in that period.
Today, the Angels have acquired Patrick Sandoval (LHP), originally from Mission Viejo, California, and from the Houston Astros International Space against C Martin Maldonado. Sandoval is 9-1 with a 2.56 ERA this season.

The Mission Viejo product was originally selected by Houston during the 11th round of the 2015 Mission Viejo HS First Year draft. He was twice named pitcher of the Week Midwest League of the Week and was selected as the thrower of the Carolina League on July 15th. In 52 games (38 starts) in her minor league career, Sandoval was 14-11 with three saves, with a 3.88 ERA and 237 strikeouts.
