Apple and Samsung have been fined millions of people after an Italian watchdog found that their software updates had slowed down their phones.
Both companies have asked users to install updates that were not "adequately supported by their devices," said the Italian Competition Authority.
He added that Apple and Samsung had not warned their customers that the update would slow down the phone. This prompted consumers to buy new devices, said the watchdog.
Both companies deny this accusation.

The Italian watchdog examined:
- Galaxy Note 4 users having downloaded an update as of May 2016 (this update was based on the new Android operating system "Marshmallow").
