The last episode of Star Wars begins this Wednesday (August 1st) at Pinewood Studios in London, England. Fan favorite director J.J. Abrams, who co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Terrio, returns to the bar Star Wars: Episode IX and that's just the beginning of the good news about this latest movie.
Fans who feared Mark Hamill Luke Skywalker can be quiet. Not only is he back, but Billy Dee Williams, who played Lando Calrissian in The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983) will also resume his role.
And even though Carrie Fisher died in 2016 just after filming the release of 2017, Star Wars: The Last Jedi Abrams confirmed that there were enough unpublished footage to include Carrie in Leia Organa Star Wars: Episode IX .
"We desperately loved Carrie Fisher," says Abrams. "Finding a really satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her escaping us, we would never recast, or use a CG character." With the support and blessing of her daughter, Billie, we found a way to 39, honor Carrie's legacy and her role as Leia in Episode IX using unpublished footage that we filmed together in Episode VII. "
