Saskatchewan is taking steps to improve its gynecologic oncology program.
Five gynecologic oncologists have agreed to start practicing in the province, joining the new director of the program, Dr. Laura Hopkins, to give Saskatchewan six permanent gynecologists.
Once contracts are finalized and start dates are determined, three of the physicians will work in Regina and three in Saskatoon.
Hopkins is scheduled to move from Ottawa to Saskatoon in September. It will focus on creating a provincial model of care guidelines, quality improvement initiatives and clinical trials.

In addition to recruiting new doctors, the operation of the program is also being streamlined.
The Saskatchewan Cancer Agency will now manage the program. Previously, the cancer agency, the Saskatchewan Health Authority and the College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan managed part of the program.
