Flying ants cause problems for downhill players at Wimbledon

A swarm of flying ants on their ritual flight of mating has come down on Wimbledon causing disturbances and out of court.

Wing creatures appeared late in the afternoon and were quickly sighted on most terrain, which disturbed viewers on Henman Hill

Caroline Wozniacki, former world number one, asked the referee there was something.

She said: "They are in my mouth and in my hair and everywhere – we have to do something – is there a spray?

"I want to be here to focus on tennis, not to eat insects."

Several players were seen sweeping the ants, while some seemed to be stuck in Wozniacki's hair, bugs were also seen resting on the well-manicured lawn of the courts, having arrived en mbade.

A spokesman for the All England Lawns Tennis Club said : "As we experienced at the Championships last year, the natural year appearance where ants get into what is often called
a" nuptial flight ", which should normally be considered a ritual of "Mating"

"It's happening pretty much the same day across the country, some areas a day or two after.

"According to the direction of the Zoological Society of London, they usually appear at the end of the month, but they appeared earlier this year."
