Four people accused of breaking and entering in Calgary

Two men and two women in Surrey, BC face a long list of charges related to a series of break-ins, including the theft of over 5,000 pieces of mail.

Investigators from the central break and enter unit first detected an increase in break and enter, motor vehicle theft and other fraudulent activity in August 2018.

With the help of a number of other police departments, including the Edmonton Police Department, the Vancouver Police Department and several RCMP detachments, the Calgary Police Department identified four suspects, all from Surrey.

Robert Paul Allard, 30, Steven Edward Hart, 34, and Courtney Lee Delf, 29, were all arrested when police executed a search warrant in a Bridleridge Green S.W. 9000 block house.

The fourth suspect, Laetitia Angelique Acera, 25, was arrested at a later date.

Police also seized a large number of items, including seven firearms, stolen property and more than 5,000 pieces of mail stolen from four different provinces, affecting a total of 2,194 members of the public.

According to officials, 3,970 pieces of stolen mail were recovered and confirmed stolen. They will eventually be returned once the Canada Post disruption is resolved.

The four suspects were charged with 87 offenses including:

• break and enter (residential and commercial)

• motor vehicle theft

• disguise to commit a criminal act

• possession of stolen goods over $ 5,000

• possession of stolen property under $ 5,000

• use of a stolen credit card

• fraud under $ 5,000

• identity theft

• breach of probation

• dangerous storage of a firearm

• possess a firearm obtained by crime

• knowing possession of a firearm without a license

• possess a weapon contrary to a prohibition order

• possession of stolen mail

The Calgary Police remind residents that break and enter is very often an offense of desirability and that offenders must only forcibly enter in 34% of incidents.

Officials say that a good rule of thumb for protecting yourself and your property is a 21-hour routine to make sure your home and vehicles are safe every night.
