Jeopardy's obsession for Jonathan Greenan debuted in his grandparents' living room and will culminate when his appearance in the show will air on Friday.
"The playing experience has earned me an essential piece of the list and I really could not have asked for more," said Greenan, who grew up in Summerside, USA, and now lives. in Charlottetown.
It was a dream that goes back several years.
"I can certainly remember it at the elementary school," he said.
"I remember being a kid, spending a lot of time with my grandparents when I was a kid and they still had it."
Online test
Then, in adulthood, Greenan seriously began to become a competitor of the series. He learned that Jeopardy was conducting online tests every 12 to 18 months for potential candidates. He started pbading these tests a decade ago, with about 75,000 other people.
At each turn, he said, these 75,000 people are reduced to 3,000 for live interviews and auditions. Greenan was finally invited to an audition in Toronto last November, then to the show in Los Angeles, where his appearance was recorded in August.
"It was fantastic – it was really amazing to see the magic of the show come true," he said.
Once in the studio, he said, the staff closely monitors the competitors to ensure the integrity of the match. For the same reason, future candidates do not spend much time with Alex Trebek because Trebek is one of the few people who knows the answers to the questions.

But they have the option to enter the studio before recording, to see the operation of the ringtones and to get acquainted with the environment.
"The room itself was a little smaller than I thought, you see it on TV and you have those close-ups leaning in. It looks like a gigantic," Greenan said. .
It was fun, he said, to learn little things about the series, for example on how they fit the competitors' podiums so everyone has the same size, and on the precision with which it operates after 35 years. The show, he said, is mainly live.
He spent a lot of time with the other competitors.
"You have the chance to meet many like-minded people, a dozen Jeopardy nuts who all live the dream of their lives that day," he said.
Greenan is not allowed to talk about the results nor to know if he will be featured in more than one episode.
