Project Fi uses the networks of T-Mobile, Sprint and US Cellular if Wi-Fi is not available.

following Tuesday speculation about Google First Wi-Fi networkProject Fi expands its range of compatible phones and changes its name. The service, now called Google Fi, will be available for some phones Samsung and OnePlus, as well as for iPhones, although the latter is currently in beta.

Prior to Wednesday's announcement, Google Fi only worked with a small number of Android phones: four LG and Moto phones and Google branded devices such as pixel and Nexus phones. By expanding its network to other handsets, especially non-Android phones, and by removing the word "project" in the tentative name, Google announces significant efforts to expand its user base and strengthen the support of the devices.

To promote the expansion of Google Fi, Google also offers special offers for today only. If you are a new or existing customer and buy a Google Fi phone, Google will refund the amount you paid in the form of a gift card for Delta Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Airbnb or Hotels.com. If you are a new subscriber and you bring your current phone to Fi, you will receive a $ 200 rebate via a billing credit.

Also note that not all features of the plan will be available for Android or iOS phones that you bring to the network. In order to access all features, Google recommends using a phone specifically designed for Google Fi.

What sets Google Fi apart from most major carriers is that it first uses local Wi-Fi networks (the same type you set up at home, or connect to a café or airport) to connect calls, send SMS and browse the Internet. If Wi-Fi coverage is not available or too low, then the network will switch to US T-Mobile, Sprint or US Cellular networks.

But Fi is not the only network to operate this way, Republic Wireless is another first Wi-Fi network. As for T-Mobile, Verizon, AT & T and Sprint, these companies offer similar services, such as Wi-Fi calls, but packages on Google Fi are usually cheaper and all the unused data you buy for the month will be returned to you. Fi also offers unlimited international packages.
