Harvey Weinstein faces new criminal charges, including predatory sexual assault

The Manhattan District attorney in New York City announced on Monday new criminal charges against producer Harvey Weinstein, who had been charged with rape and the criminal badual act in May.

The new charges include predatory badual badault – which carries a prison sentence of at least 10 years – and a third woman in addition to the previous two charges.

Weinstein, 66, one of Hollywood's most powerful filmmakers, pleaded not guilty to the first charge. His next court date is September 20.

Benjamin Brafman, Weinstein's attorney, could not be reached immediately for comment

"This indictment is the result of the extraordinary courage of the survivors who came forward. "District
lawyer Cyrus Vance Jr. said in a statement. "Our investigation is continuing."

More than 70 women accused the co-founder of the Miramax movie studio's badual misconduct, including rape, in a series of incidents dating back decades. The accusations sparked the #MeToo movement, which saw hundreds of women publicly blame powerful men in the business, government and entertainment of badual harbadment and abuse.

Weinstein Co.'s board dismissed, the company declared bankruptcy in March. and the Academy of Arts and Sciences of the cinema has expelled him.
