Huawei on track to ship 200 million smartphones this year, challenge Apple for second place

Huawei is on track to ship 200 million smartphones this year, putting it within reach of Apple, reports the South China Morning Post

Mobile Chief Richard Yu announced that the company had shipped 100 millions of phones on July 18th.

"Previously Huawei had reached the 100 million mark on December 22, 2015, October 14, 2016 and September 12, 2017. As it only took a little more than six month to achieve the goal this year, we are now targeting shipments of 200 million units by the end of 2018, "Yu said.

" Given that the second half of the year is normally the peak period for smartphone sales, Huawei will have more than 200 million units of phone shipments if it has already completed half of that now, "said Zaker Li , senior badyst at IHS Markit.

Apple shipped about 215 million iPhones last year. If Huawei is doing well this season, he could challenge Apple for second place behind Samsung.
