Human remains found five miles north of Ste. Anne, at the end of October, was clearly identified as Thelma Krull, a 57-year-old grandmother who disappeared during a walk in the East Kildonan neighborhood of Winnipeg three years ago.
On October 27, a hunter discovered what he thought was a human skull in a wooded area near the intersection of Highway 12 and Highway 52N. The Steinbach RCMP has launched an investigation that should eventually include the RCMP Forensic Services, the Serious Crime Unit and the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS).
Thelma Krull (Sent: Winnipeg Police Service)WPS released an update Wednesday afternoon indicating that Krull had been identified with DNA testing. WPS says that Krull was last seen on July 11, 2015 near Valley Gardens in the East Kildonan area. The police had previously claimed to believe that Krull had been badaulted and forcibly taken to the area. They now say that, given the location of her remains, the suspect had access to a vehicle and probably has a connection to the area north of Ste. Anne
"I think it's a place where hunters will go," said WPS Sergeant Wes Rommel. "We think the venue is very important and the link with the suspect is a possibility, I think it's an important part of the investigation and we want the public to think about how that person can be familiar with this area and this specific place. "
Rommel says that they specifically ask people living in the RM of Taché to report any suspicions of mistrust in the summer of 2015 and reiterate their call for tips, however minimal it may be.
"We are waiting for a break in the investigation after gathering tips and information over the past three and a half years," Rommel said. "Now, when you find where she was placed, it's another connection with the suspect. This is not a coincidence, it's this place for a reason, and now, that's It is a question of knowing what it is. "
Rommel said that as long as the suspect is still on the scene, he hopes that this discovery will put an end to Thelma's family, while the police continue his search.
Residents who have advice and information can call the WPS Homicide Service at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
WPS also thanks the Steinbach RCMP Detachment for their badistance in this investigation.
