Jacoby, Leiper, Blue Jays Fire Trainers

Brook Jacoby and Tim Leiper will not be part of Charlie Montoyo's Toronto Blue Jays coaching staff.

General Manager Ross Atkins confirmed to John Lott of The Athletic that the Blue Jays coach and the first goal coach had been fired.

Jacoby, 58, joined the Jays before the 2015 season as a coach-trainer under John Gibbons, replacing Kevin Seitzer. A native of Philadelphia, Jacoby held the same position as the Cincinnati Reds for seven seasons.

As a player, Jacoby spent 11 seasons in major tournaments from 1981 to 1992 with the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland and Oakland Athletics.

Leiper, 52, preceded Jacoby from one season. After a long career in the minor leagues, Leiper joined the New York Mets as a coach in 1996, before joining the Montreal Expos, Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles and Florida Marlins, before joining the Jays.

A native of Whittier, California, Leiper also served on the coaching staff of several Baseball Canada teams, including at the 2004 Summer Olympics.

In September, Leiper acknowledged uncertainty about his future with the club.

"You never really know," said Leiper. There is always some kind of change going on. So for me, it's kind of the nature of the business. "

At his opening press conference last week, the new director of the Jays, Montoyo, said the top priority was to staff, although he did not say whether the current coaches of the outgoing Gibbon staff would be kept.
