The Texas Suffers jazz-soul-funk band, conducted by singer Kam Franklin, performs at the 39th Montreal International Jazz Festival

Vinícius Cantuária (22h, The Astral, 42 $)

Vinícius Cantuária, singer and veteran Brazilian guitarist, perpetuates the flame of the bossa nova by infusing it the subtle jazz sensibility that allowed him to collaborate with Brian Eno, Marc Ribot, David Byrne and Bill Frisell. In 2015, he released a cover album of bossa boss Antonio Carlos Jobim, including the inevitable Garota de Ipanema.

The Jazz-Funk-Team Texas Soul-Pop The Suffers is part of the new wave of contagious crossover with real chops. The singer Kam Franklin evokes the spirit of the namesake Aretha through Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes. An excellent example of the free world clbad fare offered every evening at the jazz festival.

Chiva Gantiva (10 pm, Scene du Monde, corner of rue Clark and boulevard de Maisonneuve, free)

A trio of Colombians living in Brussels brings together an eclectic team to create a groovy groove unit mixing latin styles , funk, world and hip-hop, singing and rap in Spanish and French. Their 2017 album Despegue features rappers from the 90's Arrested Development's rapper Speech and Martin Perna from the New York Antibiotic Ensemble Afrobeat
