Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 85, of the United States Supreme Court, is hospitalized after falling into her office and fracturing three ribs, the court said.
Justice rushed early Thursday to George Washington University Hospital after feeling discomfort overnight. The court said the fall occurred Wednesday night.
Ginsburg was admitted to the hospital for treatment and observation after tests had shown that she had fractured three ribs.
Ginsburg has survived episodes of colorectal cancer and pancreatic cancer. A stent was implanted to open a blocked artery in 2014.
Ginsburg, who is recently the subject of a documentary on his life, was appointed to the Supreme Court by Bill Clinton, who was sworn in early 1993. She is the eldest of judges but She did not say she was considering retiring soon.
Ginsburg runs the liberal wing of the court. She rejected the suggestions of some Liberals to resign during the first two years of President Barack Obama's second term, when Democrats also took control of the Senate.
She has already hired clerks for the period up to 2020, which indicates that she is not planning to retire.
President Donald Trump has appointed two judges, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, since taking office. Gorsuch was raised after Obama's Merrick Garland candidacy was not accepted by the Senate.
In an interview during the Trump campaign, Ginsburg called it "fake" which "really has an ego". She later apologized for her inappropriate remarks.
