Liability Tribunal adjourns Nawaz's corruption cases until July 30 | Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Court of Justice-I Judge Mohammad Bashir resumed hearing references to Al Azizia and Flagship corruption against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday.

During the hearing, Nawaz's attorney, Khawaja Haris, reiterated his objection that the same judge, who has already ruled on one of the three corruption cases against his client, heard the case

. NAB Deputy Attorney General, Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi, argued that the High Court of Islamabad (IHC) has not issued any stay orders to a court. He added that it would be appropriate for the same judge who oversaw the case since the first day to preside over the trial in its concluding phase.

With regard to the conduct of Inside the prison, the judge observed that it is not a simple matter where we can pick everything up and start hearing the # 39, case inside the prison.

Haris baderted that the goal The trial in jail is simple: prevent his client from being seen or heard before the elections of July 25.

Haris also stated that he would not be part of the proceedings until the IHC would rule on his plea for another lawsuit.

The hearing was adjourned until July 30th.

Tuesday (yesterday), the IHC seized the Sharif family's appeals and sent notices to the NAB and adjourned the case until the last week of July.

The Trial

The lawsuit against the Sharif family began on September 14, 2017 after NAB filed the references Avenfield, Al Azizia and Flagship.

On July 6, after four extensions in the initial six-month period to close the three cases, the court announced its verdict in the Avenfield reference.

Nawaz was sentenced to a total of 11 years in prison and slapped Fine of £ 8 million (Rs1.3 billion) while Maryam was sentenced to eight years with a fine of £ 2 million (Rs335 million). In addition, Maryam's husband, Capt (retd) Safdar, was sentenced to one year in prison
