Lundqvist Plants Plante on NHL winners list, Rangers beat Canucks | Sports

NEW YORK – Henrik Lundqvist stopped 25 shots on goal to lead the New York Rangers to a 2-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Monday night.

Filip Chytil and Brett Howden scored to help Lundqvist win his 437th career win, placing Jacque Plante in seventh place on the NHL's all-time list. The Rangers have improved to 6-0-1 in the last seven.

Lundqvist made two big saves on sensational rookie Elias Pettersson of Vancouver in the final seconds to preserve his victory.

Nikolay Goldobin scored and Jacob Markstrom made 25 saves for the Canucks, who broke a six-point stretch (4-0-2).

Chytil, 19, tied the score 1-1 with a 7: 18 left in the second on a rebound left for his first game of the season. After getting a spot in the lineup outside the training camp, he struggled to find the back of the net in the first 18 games. Rangers coach David Quinn said earlier in the day that he had not lost confidence in the talented teenager and that he was rewarded for his patience. Chris Kreider and Neal Pionk attended the game.

Howden, 20, earned the winning goal with 8:41 left in the third inning after firing a wrist in front of Markstrom. Jimmy Vesey and Jesper Fast participated in the play. Howden missed a match earlier in November for precautionary reasons after a terrible collision with the bottom boards against Buffalo.

Goldobin gave the Canucks a 1-0 lead at 3:16 of the second. Shortly after coming out of the penalty area, Goldobin picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and started a lightning race for Vancouver. The Russian winger kept him himself and placed a drug addict in the upper corner. Tyler Motte and Ben Hutton attended the play.

The Canucks thought they had doubled their advantage less than a minute later when Michael Del Zotto's shot hit both posts and the crossbar. The referees initially called the game a "good goal on the ice", but it was overturned after a video review.
