BURBANK, Calif. (AP) – A transgender activist who won a discrimination lawsuit after her school refused to let her use the girls' bathroom will be the first transgender superhero in the world. TV.
Nicole Maines star in The CW / Warner Bros. "Supergirl" like Nia Nal, aka Dreamer. The producers describe her character as a "transgender young woman with a fierce desire to protect others."
Maines drew national attention for her battle against her Orono school district in Maine for her right to use the bathroom of girls. Maine's highest court ruled in 2014 that school authorities had violated the state's anti-discrimination law by requiring that it use staff restrooms.
It was the first time that a state court concluded that a transgender person had to use the bathroom of the kind.
Maines has already starred in the independent horror film "Bit" as a transgender teenager trying to coexist with and understand a group of feminist vampires in Los Angeles.
Maines studied at the University of Maine but her father says she's leaving to focus on the game.
The 20-year-old girl debuted as a singer at the television three years ago in USA Network's "Royal Pains" series. She has also appeared in documentaries as herself.
