Chris Evans appeared to announce earlier this month that he would no longer be playing Captain America, and now actor Frank Grillo has dropped some major hints about who could be filling his shoes.
Grillo, who played Crossbones in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Captain America: Civil War”, explained on “Larry King Now” that it could be an African-American or a female actor to take on the role next.
He said when asked by King if he was surprised by Evans’ announcement, “No, that ran its course and those guys are all getting a bit old.”

Grillo then added that “there have been rumours that Captain America could be African-American. It could be a woman. You know? So they’re looking.”
Grillo’s comments come after Evans posted:
Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.

Despite the tweet though, the actor has since insisted he’s not confirming nor denying anything, after fans accused him of revealing a huge spoiler about the upcoming “Avengers 4” movie.
“I should clarify that I know I did tweet something that made a lot of people think that it was in some way a spoiler,” Evans said during an appearance at ACE Comic Con in Chicago, as reported by ComicBook.com.
“I should clarify that regardless of how ‘Avengers 4’ ends, I would have tweeted the exact same thing. That last day of filming was a very emotional day and it was the culmination of almost 10 years of filming and 22 movies, this unbelievable tapestry.”
