Ministry of Health warns residents of the Palestinian Authority against ticks and mosquitoes

HARRISBURG, Pa. –

Summer has come and with it come summer bugs that could have an impact on your health.

According to a statement from the Pennsylvania Department of Health, mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus and ticks carrying Lyme disease would be present throughout the state.

The Ministry of Health urges residents to protect themselves against these insects by knowing the potential symptoms badociated with Lyme disease and West Nile virus.

Some symptoms to watch for if you have been bitten are:

  • Red rash in the shape of puffed bull's-eye
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Headache
  • Tired
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Swollen lymph nodes

The release states that ticks are found in shrubs, weeds and tall grbad, but can also be found in other areas.

Some symptoms of West Nile virus are:

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • aches
  • Joint pain
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • reckless

Some more serious symptoms of West Nile include swelling of the brain, meningitis, coma and paralysis.

Last year, 130 West Nile human cases were reported in Pennsylvania, while the state was leading Lyme disease cases in 2018 with about 10,000.

The Ministry of Health says residents should always monitor their symptoms and look for ticks and other insects in pets and children.
