No. 18 State of Mississippi

Last season: 25-12, lost 75-60 against Penn State in the semifinals of the NIT.

Nickname: Bulldogs

Coach: Ben Howland

Conference: Southeast

Who left: the guard Eli Wright (mutated), the guard / before Xavian Stapleton (mutated)

Who's back: The Bulldogs are coming back with a huge slice of their production from last season, including their top six scores. Senior guard Quinndary Weatherspoon is back after leading the team with 14.4 points per game. Nick Weatherspoon (10.8 points per game), Lamar Peters (9.6 points per game) and Tyson Carter (8.9 points per game) are also present. On the field, Aric Holman averaged 10.9 points and 6.7 rebounds last season while Abdul Ado averaged 7.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and nearly two blocks.

New: The Bulldogs have a trio of freshmen who will likely have immediate play time, including American striker McDonald's Reggie Perry and Guards D.J. Stewart and Robert Woodard.

Howland has made the state of Mississippi a SEC competitor for four seasons. The Bulldogs are very talented, and if they can improve their outside shot, they should have a chance to win just about every game.

Expectations: The league media have chosen the fourth goal of the SEC elective ballot. They should participate in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2009. Las Vegas has every chance of winning a national title at 120/1, which is obvious. This is not great, but it is much better than the recent seasons.
