Two people in Thunder Bay, Ontario, were charged with abandoning more than 20 cats and kittens in a park in northwestern Ontario in the summer of 2016.
According to the Ontario SPCA, a 45-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man pleaded guilty to causing distress to an animal, failing to provide general welfare, and failing to provide adequate conditions and sanitary.
According to a statement on Tuesday, November 2, 2018, the 45-year-old woman was sentenced to 60 days in prison, a two-year probation and a two-year ban on owning or caring for animals. She was also fined $ 525 and restituted $ 1,308 to the Ontario SPCA.
After her ban period, the 45 year old woman will be limited to life holding up to two animals at a time.
In June, the 47-year-old man was sentenced to 90 days in prison for his involvement. He received the same legal prohibition as the 45 year old woman and was also sentenced to pay the fine and restitution.
According to Tuesday's statement, Ontario SPCA officers belonging to the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society were summoned to Wilson Street Park on June 15, 2016 after 23 cats and kittens were found abandoned in a crate. for dogs.
A kitten in the crate was found dead.
During the investigation, officers said that a witness had approached, which had led to the execution of an SPCA warrant from the US. Ontario in a Thunder Bay home, where 37 more cats had been removed from unsanitary conditions.
