Amanda Simard, MP for Eastern Ontario, is no longer a member of the Progressive Conservative Party caucus and will sit as an independent.
The Glengarry – Prescott – Russell representative, who understands the eastern suburbs of Ottawa and the communities to the east of the city, gave no reason in his Wednesday letter to the president 's office.

It is not known if she left the party alone or if she was fired.
Simard refused to comment on Radio-Canada Wednesday morning after the announcement of the news.
However, she vocally opposed her party's French-language politics over the past week and openly meditated on her future with the PCs.
These policies include the decision, since canceled, to remove the French Language Services Commissioner from the province.
CPs are going ahead with the cancellation of funding for a new francophone university.
The largest Francophone riding in the region
Simard was elected for her first term at Queen's Park last June to represent the riding that has many francophones.
According to the last census, 66% of the population in his riding can conduct a conversation in both official languages.
She was the first non-Liberal member of the constituency created in 1999.
The mayor of Hawkesbury, Ontario, one of the largest communities in the riding of Simard, congratulated her Wednesday, saying she had shown courage and integrity.
"I am disappointed that [Premier Doug] Ford did not consult it before the [changes] have been made, "said Jeanne Charlebois on CBC Radio Ottawa Morning.
