NDP MP Sheila Malcolmson moves from federal politics to provincial politics looking for a vacant Nanaimo MP position.
Joined by B.C. Malcolmson, Prime Minister and leader of the NDP, announced that she would ask the NDP's candidacy for the position vacated when MP Leonard Krog was elected mayor of the city.
Malcolmson said she was honored to be a member of the federal NDP where she has been sitting since her election in 2015.
"But the environmental and housing crisis can not wait, and as a member of the Government of British Columbia, these will be my priorities," she said.
Horgan said he was excited to see a Malcolmson-caliber candidate running for the nomination, claiming that she had "proven herself in getting results for the locals." from Nanaimo ".
Elected mayor Krog also participated in the press conference, stating that he was looking forward to working with Malcolmson as a member of the region.
Malcolmson will still have to defeat the British Columbia Liberals in the by-election and his leader, Andrew Wilkinson, has already stated that he appreciates the chances of his party. A by-election would also be called for Malcolmson's vacant seat if she renounced it.
In a press release issued Wednesday, Wilkinson said that the eventual replacement of a deputy by a deputy would simply cost taxpayers more money.

The date of the by-election has not yet been set and Krog still has to officially leave his MP duties while he finishes his provincial job next month.
