NBA Review: The 48 Murray Nuggets on Celtics

Jamal Murray scored a career-high 48 points ahead of Kyrie Irving, and host Denver Nuggets rallied to beat the Boston Celtics 115-107 on Monday night.

Murray missed the opportunity to become the first Denver player since Carmelo Anthony to score 50 points or more in a game. Anthony did it twice, the last time on February 7, 2011, two weeks before it was traded to the New York Knicks.

Murray, whose previous career high was 38 points, led the Nuggets to a fifth consecutive victory and their ninth in ten games to open the season.

Irving finished with 31 and Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown had 15 each for the Celtics, who lost two straight.

Warriors 117, Grizzlies 101

Stephen Curry and Alfonzo McKinnie scored three points in a 14-point race against Golden State late in the third quarter, allowing the two defending champions to defeat Memphis in Oakland, California.

Klay Thompson scored 27 points, a top in the game, for the Warriors, who won their eighth straight game in the overall standings and sixth in the row despite losing Draymond Green in the second quarter. Kevin Durant had 22 points and Curry finished with 19 points.

Marc Gasol flirted with a triple-double for Memphis with eight points and highs in rebounds (10) and badists (nine). Dillon Brooks scored 18 points, a top in the team, while Jaren Jackson Jr. and Shelvin Mack scored 15 each for the Grizzlies.

Heat 120, Pistons 115 (OT)

Josh Richardson earned 27 points, eight rebounds and four badists, and the visit to Miami ended a three-game losing streak with an overtime win over Detroit, a weakened city.

Goran Dragic scored 21 points, seven rebounds and six badists for the Heat, while Dwyane Wade added 18 points. Andre Drummond earned 25 points and 24 rebounds for Detroit, who lost his fifth straight.

Wade is 30th on the league scoring list in the first half, overtaking Clyde Drexler (22,195 points). Wade finished the night at 22,211.

Thunder 122, pelicans 116

With star goalie Russell Westbrook in the second period following an ankle injury, Dennis Schroder scored nine consecutive points in Oklahoma City in the fourth quarter in a win over New Orleans.

Schroder finished the season with 22 points (16 in the second half), the highest total of the season. The Thunder has extended its winning streak to five after losing the first four games of the season. It was the sixth consecutive loss to New Orleans after a 4-0 start.

Schroder was fortunate to finish on top after Westbrook twisted his left ankle with a time remaining at 4:25 in the third quarter. Westbrook turned and grabbed his left leg before hitting the ground with pain and frustration. Shortly after, he went to the locker room, without putting any weight on his leg.

Bulls 116, Knicks 115 (2OT)

The 41st career point of Zach LaVine, a free kick with 0.2 seconds left in the second overtime, broke the tie and allowed Chicago to travel to New York.

The Bulls broke a series of four consecutive losses. The Knicks lost for the third time in four games.

Antonio Blakeney had 17 points and Jabari Parker added 15 points for the Bulls, who received a double-double from Wendell Carter Jr. (11 points, 13 rebounds). The Knicks' reserve Enes Kanter had 23 points, 24 rebounds and seven badists – the first player to have produced a game of at least 20-20 seconds since Charles Barkley on November 28, 1986.

Raptors 124, Jazz 111

Kyle Lowry had 17 points, 11 badists and seven rebounds to lead Toronto to Utah in Salt Lake City.

Three other Raptors players also scored 17 points – led by Serge Ibaka, who made eight attempts to shoot before moving to the start of the fourth quarter. Alec Burks led Utah 22 points off the bench in his first game after missing four games due to a broken left hand.

Utah played without Donovan Mitchell (sprained ankle) for the second time in three games. Toronto played without Kawhi Leonard (stuck foot) for the second consecutive game.

Rockets 98, Pacers 94

James Harden scored 28 points, but his only block allowed Houston to win its third consecutive victory, beating Indiana in Indianapolis.

Pacers goaltender Victor Oladipo scored eight points in the stretch, but Harden blocked Oladipo's shot 28.8 seconds into the end and the Rockets led 93-90. Harden sealed the win with two free throws 5.4 seconds from the end.

Harden and P.J. Tucker (nine points, five rebounds, two interceptions) each hit a final 3 points to make up for the surge by Oladipo, who led Indiana with 28 points. Domantas Sabonis added 17 substitutes for the Pacers.

Magic 102, Riders 100

Evan Fournier made a decisive blow to give Orlando an unlikely home win after Cleveland returned the ball twice in the final 20 seconds.

The Cavaliers had a three-point lead with 18.7 seconds to play, possession of the ball and shot clock went out, but Cedi Osman's bad pbad was intercepted by DJ Augustin, who was stained and made the two free throws.

Two seconds later, Kyle Korver returned the ball and Fournier made one of two free throws to equalize the point after committing a foul on the basket 13 seconds from the end. Nikola Vucevic blocked a shot from Cleveland's George Hill 2.2 seconds from time, allowing Fournier's winner to win.

Lawnmowers 120, Timberwolves 109

Tobias Harris and Danilo Gallinari scored 22 points each and Lou Williams added 20, while Los Angeles was far from Minnesota.

Derrick Rose scored 21 points for Minnesota in his second start of the season. In his debut last week against Utah Jazz, the most valuable former player recorded a career high of 50 points. Karl-Anthony Towns scored 20 points for the Timberwolves, but only seven after the first quarter. However, he managed 12 rebounds, a high point in the game.

Jimmy Butler of Minnesota also scored 20 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter.
