Netflix subscribers in Canada are poised to raise their prices, as competition is heating up among the largest video streaming services.
The society behind Narcos and Orange is the new black launches its largest price increase for both new and current subscribers.
The basic package of Netflix Canada, which does not offer high definition 4K video and allows streaming on one device at a time, raises to $ 9.99 per month.
The standard Netflix package will now cost $ 3 more, or $ 13.99 a month, to watch content on two devices at the same time.
Premium Plan subscribers pay an additional $ 3 – or $ 16.99 per month – to watch TV shows and movies on four devices at the same time and in HD and Ultra HD video.
Netflix indicates that higher prices are applied immediately for new subscribers, while existing users will be notified by email before their bills increase in the coming weeks.
The company raised the prices of most dollar plans about a year and a half ago.
Helps finance new series and new movies
Netflix says the initiative will help fund upcoming TV shows and movies, as well as the overall enhancements to the Netflix platform.
However, the company will also face intense competition next year, as the number of streaming platforms in the Canadian market offering attractive offers increases.
